Mechanical Design Engineer Electronics Enclosure & Packaging
About the role
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with a proven track record in electronic enclosure design. In this role, you are expected to bridge the gap between industrial design and electrical engineering. You will design the physical architecture of our electronic devices, ensuring that internal components — PCBs, batteries, connectors, and displays — fit safely, look sleek, and survive real-world environments.
You will guide designs from initial concept and 3D modeling through rapid prototyping (3D printing, laser cutting) to final mass production optimization.
Key responsibilities
Seven line items, one enclosure. Here's what you'll own end to end.
Create production-ready 3D CAD models of enclosures using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, balancing aesthetics, structural integrity, and ease of assembly.
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to import PCB layouts, connectors, and batteries into CAD systems to ensure perfect mechanical clearance and fit.
Rapidly iterate designs using in-house fabrication tools like 3D printing (FDM/SLA) and laser cutting to test form, fit, and function.
Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and thermal simulations to guarantee the enclosure protects against drops, impacts, and overheating.
Optimize parts for mass production processes, specifically injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, or CNC machining.
Incorporate gaskets, seals, and interlocking joints to meet specific Ingress Protection (IP) ratings.
Create detailed 2D engineering drawings with precise tolerances, bill of materials (BOM), and assembly instructions.
Required skills & qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related field.
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (highly preferred) or AutoCAD, including sheet metal, plastics, and surfacing features.
Demonstrated experience designing enclosures for PCBs, managing tolerance stack-ups, and integrating hardware components.
Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting 3D printers and laser cutters.
Strong understanding of DFM/DFA rules, draft angles, wall thickness constraints, and material selection (ABS, Polycarbonate, Aluminum, etc.).
Ability to optimize designs for specific environmental constraints.
Nice to have
Experience with industrial design, ergonomics, and consumer tech aesthetic trends.
Experience simulating drop tests and airflow using SolidWorks Simulation / Flow Simulation.
What we offer
Structured, stable work hours — no late-night fire drills as standard practice.
A welcoming, collaborative culture where engineers actually talk to each other.
Rapid career growth and skill acquisition as the team and product line up scale.
